Singapore's Chinatown and Old Charms {feeling like a tourist}

Bishan Cinema
As from my last entry, I've told you guys that it's overly summer here in Singapore.  So I decided to go to Bishan Junction 8 mall to watch Hansel and Gretel, first.  That was around 2:30PM.  The movie was good, lots of action and there was less drama.  I wanted it that way though but the story is a bit short.  I wanted it longer but not dragging.   I'd still recommend this movie to be watched though but if Cloud Atlas is still showing, better go for it.

After the movie, I decided to go to Tanjong Pagar and explore some old charms of Singapore.  Old shops are actually in this area and if you have the stamina to explore the area on foot, you can actually proceed to Chinatown which was what I did.

Here are some of the photos I took.  Year of the Snake is to be celebrated for his CNY and I'd like you to look for the snake which I happened to capture ;)

American Idol and Sex in the City 2

Well the recently concluded American Idol 2010 had Lee as it's winner and oh I like Crystal than him. Even so, Lee is also vocally talented and yeah people of America loved him so there, he emerged as the winner. Well, good luck to both artists.

Anyway, I went out with friends to watch Sex in the City 2. This movie never failed to make me really really laugh. I like Samantha portrayed by Kim Catrall because of her really outlandish and woman - trying to live life with age as not a hindrance to celebrating life. Well the funny Charlotte and the nerdy fashionista in Miranda also made the movie really fun. Not to forget, the not so usual life of " the " Carrie Bradshaw, makes all the movie even fun to watch.

After watching the movie at Tiong Bahru Plaza, we went to Holland Village for an hour of chit-chat at Coffee Bean cafe. We had some cakes and regular chocolate drink. It was like really refreshing updating each and everyone's life - future travel and plans definitely were not a miss.

We went home at around 3AM and ofcourse, I was not able to sleep that early as again I played DOTA. This is a mild addiction I guess....

Planning to watch Prince of Persia today ;) Hope you guys had a great weekend and have fun :D

Weekend activities

There's not much to do today. I think I need to control my shopping urges. Singapore is a place where people's past time would be shopping, simply because, there's a lot of sales in all its malls. Right now, I decided to stay at home.

Things I usually do when at home is have some movie series marathon. Last Saturday, I just finished season 1 of Merlin. Then I watched the third season of Avatar. I also read the Naruto Manga online. And right now, I'm viewing House MD season two. I have watched the first season when I was in the Philippines so I just am continuing right now where I left off of this great series.

I think the availability of good movie series, thanks to sponsors, helped me not to go out and shop. I need to save since I am planning to have a vacation in Cebu in the near future. And we all know that vacations would mean that I have to have extra money for all the purchases and services I want to avail. I have actually bought my round trip air tickets with SilkAir online and I am just waiting for my project lead to approve my vacation leave application.

Anyway, I was also watching some of Leona Lewis video and really loved her Summertime rendition. Go see:

Got to continue my House MD marathon. Ciao!

Big Bang Theory Series

Sing with me guys with this new anthem, national anthem of the geeks and those who will be :

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
The Earth began to cool,
The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!

"Since the dawn of man" is really not that long,
As every galaxy was formed in less time than it takes to sing this song.
A fraction of a second and the elements were made.
The bipeds stood up straight,
The dinosaurs all met their fate,
They tried to leap but they were late
And they all died (they froze their asses off)
The oceans and pangea
See ya wouldn't wanna be ya
Set in motion by the same big bang!

It all started with the big BANG!

It's expanding ever outward but one day
It will cause the stars to go the other way,
Collapsing ever inward, we won't be here, it wont be hurt
Our best and brightest figure that it'll make an even bigger bang!

Australopithecus would really have been sick of us
Debating out while here they're catching deer (we're catching viruses)
Religion or astronomy, Encarta, Deuteronomy
It all started with the big bang!

Music and mythology, Einstein and astrology
It all started with the big bang!
It all started with the big BANG!

Well, I am having some stomach rumbles with this funny series :D Thanks to some magician friends who were providing me with this fun stuff.... I think I'm not going anywhere this long vacation just because of this.

( Pacman vs Hitman ) && Wolverine

Pacman has conquered the world!

It was a great show of talent and skill from the one, the only, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao. Ricky "Hitman" Hatton met his absolution last Sunday morning in the form of a straight hook in the first round and at the second round, he was left to lie on the boxing ring by Pacquiao's killer left hook. Pacquiao this time has progressed in an unsurmountable degree with the superb guidance of his coach Freddie Roach. He has won 6 world titles in different weight divisions already which indeed made him to conquer the world boxing hall of fame even more.

In our flat, my housemates and I were left in a frenzy wild cheers on that very Sunday.

After that, it was back to reality. My tourist friend had to prepare for a day's excursion. We went to Centerpoint at Boonlay then to Vivo City at the other tip of NE line. Since my friend loves National Geographic, I brought him to NG's hall. I took a picture of him with the blue whale. We then went to NG's vaults to checkout their goods. After our dinner, we ended up watching the movie of this very famous metal clawed mutant, "Wolverine". It's a great movie. Though fast paced, it was able to capture Wolverine's biopic. I would want to recommend this movie to everyone :)

We went home a bit tired but satisfied:)

I cleaned my room ...

I haven’t told you guys that last Saturday, August 30 of 2008, I actually cleaned my room. Yes I did. It was a plan long overdue already. Just by walking barefoot, you can feel that the dust is all over the place and when you try to touch the corners, you can feel the rugged terrain of dusts as well. Hehehehehe. Well I vacuumed the whole place. It got me ounces of sweat. Thanks to Miss Linda Walter for giving me that vacuum cleaner. She was an American officemate who stayed in the Philippines for sometime and when she left for the US, she had her things given away. Of course I got the vacuum cleaner through a draw-by-lot.

Anyway, after I cleaned my messy room, it was time for me to go out and have some fun. I took a bath then brought my laundry to the mat and went to SM Makati and Glorieta. At SM department store, I purchased a new fleece blanket. After that, I went back to Glorieta and purchased a brown leather Reebok bag. It was on 20% off sale so I did not had time to hesitate or battle it out if I’m going to buy it or not. I was actually planning to see a movie for myself that day, but, prior to that, I took my dinner at Red Ribbon. I so love their mango cake. Yum yum! After my dinner I then went to Glorieta Cinema to watch Wall*e and on my way, I took my chances in checking an album of Richard Poon at Tower Records. His genre is soul jazz I guess, sort of Michael Buble-ish. Well, I found his album and purchased one. Just when I’m about to pay the bill, I saw a BattleStar Galactica (BSG) mini series DVD, first season. Since I have a love for movies or series like Star Wars, Bablylon 5 and Star Trek - something high tech, sci-fi; I did not have to convince myself that much and so, I bought one. The cover was neat and the summary at the back of the casing was very interesting. Well my hands were full of what I have just purchased then. After all the purchasing stuff, I then went ahead to the theater and after an hour of waiting outside the theater, I went inside and suit myself on a chair at the farthest back row. There trailers and stuff and I enjoyed most of them.

At 10 o’clock PM, the movie started rolling. Well it was futuristic and really entertaining. In the movie, people became lazy and obese because, everything was provided to them. Like they did not have to walk or cook or prepare stuff. They don’t even have sports. They were just like riding on this flying comfy convertible chair which was like a high tech lazy boy. Wall*e on the other hand is an automobile robot that presses scrap and geometrically arranges them until it forms towers, and he was last kind. He was left there on earth for the last 700 years to do just the same thing every day. Wall*e by the way is an acronym which means, “Waste Allocator Load Lifter - Earth”. Basically the story evolves Wall*e’s affection for another robot of higher AI named Eva. When Eva’s mission was completed which was to look for a plant on earth, that’s when Eva was transported back to the mother ship and Wall*e simply jumped on the ship and rode with it. I never thought cockroaches would be that communicative with a robot. Anyway, it was a light movie and full of fun. I finished the movie with a smile on my face and went home at around 12 midnight already.

Another Mummy Movie

This has been long overdue already. I was planning to actually watch at Glorieta, "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor". Well I did watch the movie yesterday, August 16. The things that made it harder to watch were, my friends don't have any liking of the movie and yesterday, was the gala night of PDA. Anyway I went to Glorieta to watch the movie - I decided to watch it because it felt like something is missing. I was actually planning to just buy a pirated DVD but it would still be different when you watch it on a cinema.

The movie was entertaining.

Jet Li portrayed the role of the ruthless emperor Han Li. Based on my recollection, it was the time when Shih Huang Ti ruled China. Some of their information aren't accurate at all. Anyway, since Emperor Han Li wanted to rule forever, which was the only thing missing; immortality, he ordered his most trusted general to look for a witch and have him realize his wicked plans. The witch portrayed by Michelle Yeoh, told the emperor that she can't do it but she knows how and where to get the elixir of youth. Accompanied by the general, the witch went to an ancient library in search for the ancient script that held about the elixir. Well the general fell in love with the witch. Prior to that, before the general's journey, the emperor had an eye for the witch and told him that no one is to have her except him, emperor Han Li. The sorceress knew that the emperor was evil and so she double crossed the emperor by cursing him to an eternal suspension in a form of a clay. The emperor did not know this since only the witch knew what the ritual meant. Emperor and his men were cursed and was buried in the desert. Taken to the post world war 1, Rick O'connell's son went on a commissioned archaeological project and so found the tomb of the dragon emperor. The O'connell's went to China to deliver the key to the elixir as a gift to the people of China but everything were a plan all along by Alex' professor. And so in the museum, they have awaken the emperor but needs to bathe himself in Shangrila to gain immortality. That's where the adventure began of the O'connell's. They went to the Himalaya's to ward off the emperor. They fought with the emperor's men together with the Yetis. Oh I loved the Yeti's, they were so cute and huggable - I guess. Anyhow the emperor succeeded in going immortal and raising his terracotta warriors. The sorceress has risen the emperor's enemies as well by sacrificing her daughter's and her immortality. There was a grand battle but the emperor was more than strong for their own force. The sorceress took the fight with the emperor single-handedly but succumb to her defeat but got the dagger which can defeat the emperor. She was severely wounded and fled. The emperor went inside the temple to complete the ritual of immortality as well to his army. The O'connell(s) had the witch with less life already and was entrusted to kill the emperor with that dagger pierced in his heart. They went inside the temple and there fought with the emperor. A trick on the side of Alex, made a miscalculation on the side of the emperor and had his life's end with that broken dagger. And that was the end of the adventure.

I was not really super amazed with the movie but there were funny scenes and cute ones. I specially loved the Yetis. The tora-tora plane taking a landing in the snowy caps of the Himalayas was a funny scene as well. The effects were quite fantastic. To rate it all, the movie was average.
